Finally, pure untouched rock music seems to have arrived in Bollywood. The first ever music album of its kind, Rock On has all the ingredients required for a proper rock album and with the current scene in the film industry, these guys seem to have made a good job of it. Heavy distorted riffs, Metal tones, and trashy lyrics, the album has it all. Let’s hope that the listeners are awakened to a classic music genre which still eludes India.

Socha Hai, the first track itself starts with a melodious rock tune, drum snares and fills. Farhan Akhtar and gang have sung it will all the energy that is required to perform it.

Pichle Saat dino Mein is a slow rock piece which moves through various grooves. The bass lines behind the main music are noticeable and what again strikes out are the supposedly trashy lyrics which don’t mean a thing but complete the overall effect.

Rock on!! Is the title track and in fact, the best track in the album. It is unique, catchy and filled with leads, fills and guitar interlude along with fast drum beats.

Ye tumhari meri baatein and Phir Dekhiye are two soothing and different tracks.

Zehreelay and Sinbad the Sailor are also nice rock pieces.

Music Director Duo – Vishal – Shekhar

Starring – Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Minnisha Lamba, Deepika Padukone

With the music of Bachna Ae Haseeno out, there are really high expectation from the music directors Vishal Shekhar. Moreover, ever since the first promos of the film were shown on televisoion, the public is wildly anticipating this album to be a chartbuster.

The opening track Khuda Jaane is indeed ear catching especially with the soft, mellow undertones that are so catchy.

Lucky boy is another typical Yash Raj track with English and hindi blend of lyrics. Quite like Lazy Lamhe or Crazy kiya re. Sunidhi Chauhan sings beautifully for this one.

Following this is a comeback track by Lucky Ali – Aahista Aahista. The man has not lost his touch. Coupled with Shreya’s rocking voice, the track has the hip retro beats of an urban song.

Jogi Mahi completes the VS touch with Sukhwinder Singh coming in. He seems to be there in every album of theirs.

Finally, the classic track Bachna Ae Haseeno pops and to say the least, VS seem to have improvised on it, without degrading the tunes.

This might not be the best music albums but has catchy tunes to boast of.

Music Review – Kismat Konnection
Directed By – Aziz Mirza
Producers – Kumar Taurani, Ramesh Taurani
Music – Pritam
Lyrics – Sayeed Qadri, Shabbir Ahmed
*ing – Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Om puri

The album, for starts, has great expectations. First and foremost, Pritam, who is the music director of Kismet Konnection, seems to be on a roll this year. After super hit albums like Race and Jannat, it seems that he might prove his superb caliber with this new project. The tracks of his previous albums such as “Pehli Nazar Mein” and “Jannat”, ”Lambi Judayi” are still being played on scratched disks all over the country, and most of the radio stations don’t seem to tire of them!

The title track goes by “Aai Paapi” which has Kismet Konnection peppered throughout, sets the groove of the album. The lyrics are a decent blend of English and Hindi to give it a contemporary tone,

However, the remix version of this track is much more pumping and will be a sure fire chartbuster. Shahid’s dance will definitely heat up local dance floors much like “Mauja hi Mauja”.

“Bakhuda Tumhi” is a unique track with musical influences of Pritam and Atif Aslam. Both merge nicely and coupled with Alka Yanik’s soothing voice, the result is indeed excellent. Aslam’s voice does wonders to Ahmed’s lyrics.
Another groovy number is “move your body now” which sees Shaan and Akruti Kakkar teaming up to give a totally hip, and retro track perfect for moving your body! The high tempo combines Western and Punjabi music in the right proportions without going overboard.

“Is This Love (Kahin Na Laage)” is another blended track written by Sayeed. Mohit Suri and Shreya Ghosal perform to this serene track and do total justice. After, “Tum se Hi” from Jab We Met, Suri might give another hit with Pritam again.
Overall, the music of kismet Konnection might do well on the charts if it received a decent push from the movie itself.

Music Review : Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
Director: Kunal Kohli
Music: Shankar Ehsaan Loy
Lyrics: Prasoon Joshi

Putting efforts and into good music albums has become a rarity these days with more funds into publicity. But Kunal Kohli belongs to this rare breed of film makers who just cannot do without great sound in their movies. So with the fun-filled and melodious tracks of Thoda Pyaar, he scores yet again.

Carrying the baton this time is the hit music director trio, Shankar , Ehsaan and Loy who have proved their skill time and again with bunty and babli, Kal ho Naa Ho and Taare Zameen Par. With new sound in the tracks, they have carved a new milestone. Together with the accomplished Prasoon Joshi providing his soulful lines, they sure have delivered.

The first track Pyaar Ke Liye is a smooth and calm song with beauty in its vocals sung by Shankar Mahadevan. Though its not as catchy, it serves as a good background filler. Then comes the loud and catchy bhangra song to move you into the groove ñ Nihal Ho Gayi. This song is filled with Prasoonís fantastic lyrical ability and Shankarís tunes who seems to do as good a job as he did in Kajra re and Rock n Roll Soniye.

This is followed by the cheerful and vivacious Bulbula sung beautifully by Sunidhi Chauhan. Prasoon again adds a dose of energy to make it chirpier with his lines. Beetey Kal Se server to teach a positive lesson to the younger ones in the film and with Shreya Goshalís, child singer Snehaís sweet vocals and Praoonís magical poetry, the song hits its mark.

The song, Lazy Lamhe, is the most infectious song with its high-spirited music and lively presense. The song hints at the Musical trioís superb capability at the job.

The conclusion is that the crew scores with the beautiful music in the album.

Movie: Jaane Tu ya Jaane Naa
Producer: Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan
Director: Abbas Tyrewala
Starring: Imraan Khan, Genelia Dsouza with many special appearances
Music: A R Rahman
Lyrics: Abbas Tyrewala

A.R Rahman seems to have delivered yet another modern and contemproray music album with Jaane Tu. A year ago, this seemed unlikely and the music was not doing well but then Aamir stepped in and the troubles vanished. He made a few changes and now Jaane Tu might cash in nicely. He replace Himesh with A.R. Rahman, the best of course and needless to say, he did the right thing.

Rahman might not have given the same sounds as in the royal Jodha Akbar, but then this film is a light hearted comedy based around the lives of a few college friends. Nevertheless, he has given us a truly refreshing experience with his latest work after Ada, another soulful album.

The trademarks of Rahman, style and classy tunes are abundant in all the tracks with lots of retro guitar fills and interludes. This adds a certain degree of modernism. The best example is the ultra chic and melodious song, Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi. The catchy tunes and brilliant singing make the song beautiful. It is funky and the guitar fills adds rhythm and mood to the song. Rashid Aliís singing are a breath of fresh air!

Then the peppy Pappu Cant Dance song is another well composed piece with intense drumming and some really inventive rythms and Abbasí nonsensical lyrics the pupose being fun and masti. Close listening will reveal the carefully composed song which seems plain to average ears. Guitar riffs in this one are also awesome. Kahin To Hogi Ho is a signature Rahman track which is absolutely enchanting and meaningful.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naaís title track is sober and but lacks any of Rahmanís unique tunes as in the other tracks. Howver, the Jazz based Tu Bole Main Boloon is a creative and skillful piece using classical instruments. This one is song by Rahman himself and he sounds fresh as ever.

Needless to say, this is one of the best albums of the year so far.

Starring: Rahul Roy, Milind Gunaji, Ayesha Jhulka

Albeit the film is fairly low-profile, its sound track may turn out to be the best of the year. A.R Rahman has trespassed new territory with his compositions in ‘Ada…A way of life’. One cannot debate the superb quality and flair in every song of this revitalizing album, a trade mark of A.R Rahman. Despite the fact that the tracks are not as modern and versatile, they undeniably are worth listening, especially to soothe one’s mind. If the film is sensible, coupled with its classy music, it can be a blockbuster.

Basically, Sufi technique in ‘Ishq Ada’ is worth noting together with the invigorating voice of Rashid Ali. The song serves as a bench mark of quality. Moreover, the gloomy undercurrents highlight the pathos in the Arabic lyrics. He has used guitar and other modern-day percussion instruments to indicate the time factor. The lyrics have been deftly composed by Raqeeb Alam and are filled with ornate poetry from Urdu verses. New comer Parul Mishra has done justice to the song with her poignant singing.

A highly evocative and passionate song, ‘Gulfisha’ has the feel of an A.R Rahman track. It has all the modern day beats and impact creating vocals blended in a synchronized hullabaloo of romance. Sunidhi Chauhan adds flavor to the Urdu poetry of Nusrat Badr. ‘Gum Sum’, an energizing song sung by Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam is not as creative because it is crammed with the identical monotonous musical tones as in other romantic songs nowadays and so has diminished the beauty of the album. ‘Hawa Sun Sun’ is another fine track which has been sung by the same pair. Delicate and quite tender, it also helps in making the song a beautiful duet, one of the most excellent this year. Rahman has made a skillful use of table and flute to make the song enchanting in its presence.
