Music Review – Kismat Konnection

Music Review – Kismat Konnection
Directed By – Aziz Mirza
Producers – Kumar Taurani, Ramesh Taurani
Music – Pritam
Lyrics - Sayeed Qadri, Shabbir Ahmed
*ing – Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Om puri

The album, for starts, has great expectations. First and foremost, Pritam, who is the music director of Kismet Konnection, seems to be on a roll this year. After super hit albums like Race and Jannat, it seems that he might prove his superb caliber with this new project. The tracks of his previous albums such as “Pehli Nazar Mein” and “Jannat”, ”Lambi Judayi” are still being played on scratched disks all over the country, and most of the radio stations don’t seem to tire of them!

The title track goes by “Aai Paapi” which has Kismet Konnection peppered throughout, sets the groove of the album. The lyrics are a decent blend of English and Hindi to give it a contemporary tone,

However, the remix version of this track is much more pumping and will be a sure fire chartbuster. Shahid’s dance will definitely heat up local dance floors much like “Mauja hi Mauja”.

“Bakhuda Tumhi” is a unique track with musical influences of Pritam and Atif Aslam. Both merge nicely and coupled with Alka Yanik’s soothing voice, the result is indeed excellent. Aslam’s voice does wonders to Ahmed’s lyrics.
Another groovy number is “move your body now” which sees Shaan and Akruti Kakkar teaming up to give a totally hip, and retro track perfect for moving your body! The high tempo combines Western and Punjabi music in the right proportions without going overboard.

“Is This Love (Kahin Na Laage)” is another blended track written by Sayeed. Mohit Suri and Shreya Ghosal perform to this serene track and do total justice. After, “Tum se Hi” from Jab We Met, Suri might give another hit with Pritam again.
Overall, the music of kismet Konnection might do well on the charts if it received a decent push from the movie itself.

Movie Review Jannat 2008

Movie: JANNAT

Director: Kunal Deshmukh

Music:   Pritam

Lyrics:   Sayeed Quadri

Starring:  Emraan Hashmi, Samir Kochhar, Sonal Chauhan

Genre:     drama

Yet another ambitious venture from the Bhatt Camp, this time it’s cricket. Jannat captures the much-hyped cricket scene of India through its explosive theme – Betting, Booking and Match-fixing in Indian cricket. The lead character is a hotshot bookie who has world famous cricketers dancing on his palm and is played refreshingly by Emraan Hashmi. Director Kunal Deshmukh however chose to highlight Imraan’s love-life which robs the film of its originality. Jannat could have been a fast action paced thriller show-casing the wicked side of cricket but with the same “laila-majnu” theme, it fails.

The story is clichéd – Emraan is a desperate character who wants to create his own Jannat by making quick money and so steps into the dangerous world of betting, making loads of cash and a reputation. The movie picks up action but suddenly the focus shifts on his girlfriend(Sonal) and one is left wondering- where’s cricket? Sonal is the conscience-stricken girl who hates Imraan’s gambling lifestyle and so sends him of to jail. She however falls flat as a debutante. Unfortunately, the second half of the film concentrates on the romance and betrayal, losing much of its sheen.

The music is the sole USP of the film which is superbly composed by Pritam. The catchy “Zara Sa…” and “Lambi Judai.” have become hot favorites. Otherwise, one can watch Jannat at least once for Imraan’s devilish act.
